Description:
Pōkahi and Kaukini were blessed with a beautiful keiki by the akua (goddess), Hina. This practice was called hānai, to give a child to be reared by a loving ʻohana. Although Laukaʻieʻie would be raised by her hānai parents, her love and bond can always be seen in our Hawaiian forest when we see an ʻōhiʻa lehua tree with an ʻieʻie vine wrapped around its trunk.
